Welcome to Volume Control: your very own
brilliantly, dazzlingly and outrageously sparkling
VIP Volume newsletter!
Just a reminder that Volume
Control is prepared by Volume resident MC, DJ and
writer, Harley Augustine, so if you have anything to
contribute (news, info, feedback etc.) then please
email him at
harley@writemix.com.au by
8pm each Monday and he’ll do his darndest to include
it on your behalf.
Well, the rave kid from Mornington swears he’s only
had ‘a few beers’ at Rod Raver Arena … but his swab
turns blue and the boys in blue put his sorry blue
ass in the big blue bus, anyway …
So, without
any further delay, here’s the next tantalising issue

LAST WEEK
Well, despite the
obvious pulling power of a certain clubbing super brand who were throwing a
certain party at a certain tennis court, Volume raged on as though it were
Melbourne’s biggest and best club night … oh, that’s right, it is!! Harley
Augustine, normally Volume’s resident Main Room closer made a surprise
appearance as first cab off the rank on Saturday night, and treated the room to
a storming and warming set of all things upfront, funked out, electro-ridden and
Housebound! From Coburn’s ‘We Interrupt This Program’ to Medcab’s ‘Dance’, and
from Mylo’s rework ‘Doctor Pressure’ to the classic ‘Gypsy Woman’, Harl got the
floor to its feet and hopping to the beat in minimal time and left things in
perfect order for his successor, Dee Dee, who hit the floor between the eyes
with his now trademark bomb, the Benassi fiddle of Fischerspooner’s ‘Never Win’.
Picking up the pace and nudging the volume slide a notch or two, Dee Dee worked
the room into a veritable frenzy as he continued to drive a little harder and a
little bolder … a little harder and a little bolder … before boom: Volume’s Main
Room was doing what it does best … rocking harder than your grandma’s favourite
crossword chair. With Dee Dee sucking on a well earned and well chilled brew,
Ivan Gough was left in charge of the decks and in an obvious lead up to his
certain gig for a certain clubbing super brand at a certain tennis court, nailed
the room to its own walls with a set of pure class. From a new cut of ‘Flaunt
It’, to a series of unadulterated Volume faves and bombs, the man they call Ivy
was on fire and was more than happy to share a few tips with the floor about how
to party hearty … and there were plenty of punters taking notes! Making a
triumphant return to Volume’s hallowed turf, Richie Walton was next up and
nailed a seriously solid set of House delights, big room bombs, upfront weapons
and classic beats: all delivered of course, with Richie’s million dollar
trademark smile! The man we call Padula, having rocked a few thousand faces at a
certain tennis court, arrived just as Richie was laying his last piece of
well-chosen wax and looked set to deliver a closing set that no one on the
packed floor was going to forget. Guess what? He did. With hands in the air,
asses to the left, and feet to the right, Melbourne’s favourite Main Room
exploded as Padula humped and grinded his way behind the decks to produce his
infamous sound: huge, rocking and worth screaming ‘Pa-a-a-adula-a-a-a’ at the
top of your lungs for! What a night, what a night … oh … what a night! Despite
suggestions all week leading up to Saturday that every man and his canine would
be partying with those with halos and wings, Saturday night’s Volume proved that
you don’t need big venues or big names to have a big night … you just need the
right choons and the right people! See you next week for more of the same – and
of course, a little bit of the different, too!

Coming Up …
Saturday, October 29
2005, Volume goes Black to basics
Darkness is not the presence of black … it is
merely the absence of light …
Echoing the enormous success and resounding fun of
Volume’s recent ‘White’ edition, Room680 is pleased to announce the highly
anticipated follow up … and this time Volume is back in BLACK: Long synonymous
with evil, darkness, danger and finality, the colour black remains the most
powerful and commonly used tone in the spectrum of Mother Nature’s rich palate –
and yet it is denied access to the exclusive realms of the common rainbow and is
relentlessly plagued by negative connotations … Well people, it’s time to right
these wrongs and pay homage to Melbourne’s favourite colour, the world’s finest
tone – the very colour of our galaxy and our skies at night. So dress like the
ace of spades, paint it black and ride in the night as Volume turns completely
‘Black’ on Saturday, October 29th. Featuring Volume’s legendary
intricately themed décor and concepts, and complete with black lights,
blackouts, and of course … Black Russians and Black Label on ice: Volume ‘Black’
will be a black night of cheeky darkness, choons noir and pre-Halloween mischief
in the dark, but friendly, shadows of Clubland … Helping to keep the darkness
lighthearted, spinning the blackest of black vinyl, and cueing the blackest of
DVJ-X1’s, will be a black label selection of DJ’s from Volume’s little black
book, including Mark ‘Blackout’ James, Ivan ‘Back To Black’ Gough, Steve ‘Black
Panther’ Bleas, Dee ‘Blacky’ Dee, Andrew ‘The Crow’ Padula, Andy ‘Ace Of Spades’
J, and Harley ‘Black Hawk’ Augustine in the Dark Room; and Tahl of Darkness,
Frightening Feigan, Rancid Rowie, R.I.P TKO, and Frightfully Fierce Fusion in
the Trick Or Treat Suite.
