Well, the man with a shovel on his back called Jim doesn’t ‘get it’ … but his mates at the pub still call him Doug.

So, without any further delay, here’s the next colossal issue …

LAST WEEK

Well, with the Spring Racing Carnival over for yet another year and the weather starting to do what it’s supposed in these twilight months of the calendar, Volume was suitably abuzz with summer excitement on Saturday night. Steve Bleas opened proceedings in the Main Room, and as an early crowd of party people began welling on the floor, he kept them more than entertained with a clever mix of electro and deep house – culminating in a perfectly timed unleashing of the Gorillaz unadulterated bomb ‘Dare’. The man we call ‘Padula’ followed Bleasy and, my-oh-my, can the man whip a floor into a frenzy, or what? Delivering his usual brand of storming, driving House, mixed seamlessly, Padula got Volume’s writhing massive in just the right mood. Hound after hound, Padula kept unleashing them, and by the time Mark James took control, the crowd was ready to go anywhere and do anything … provided one of Volume’s residents was in charge! Upfront as always, Mark cranked out a tight set that saw a number of highlights – including a savage new remix of Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta’ Love’, ‘White Horse’, and Danny Howell’s new monster ‘multi-genre’ funked out floor weapon. Sporting his new CD wallet, Volume’s big room choon master, Dee Dee, was on decks next and didn’t waste any time letting the crowd know who their daddy was. Kicking off with Benassi’s remix of Fischerspooner’s ‘Never Win’, Dee Dee tore the floor up with a wonderfully selected range of driving tracks to be reckoned with. By 4:30am, Volume’s dedicated party patrol was still in force, and as Haley Augustine stepped up to the decks, the vibe continued to kick. Opening with Pryda’s new monster ‘Aftermath’, before heading into familiar but upfront progressive territory, Harley kept the crowd’s hands in the air with what is fast becoming a tradition at Melbourne’s number one club night … the Sunday morning crank and peak before home time! Volume just keeps getting bigger and louder, folks … and with Summer set to do likewise … look out and hold onto your hats … 05/06 party season is going to be completely banana’s. Seriously.
