HARLEY AUGUSTINE
|
DJ Name: Harley Augustine
DJ Type: Progressive/Progressive House
DJ Country: Australia
DJ City: Melbourne
DJ Description: From straight up
rolling, bass-driven progressive to uplifting, melodic progressive house.
A DJ for six years, Harley’s inert passion for funky
Progressive House sounds no doubt stems from his earliest nights and mornings on
the floors of seminal Melbourne clubbing institutions, Redheads and Mansion, in
the late 1990’s - the Halcyon Days!
An
accomplished pianist, it was a smooth transition from ivory to wax when Harley
procured his first decks to help pass the time in Adelaide - where he was based
on a corporate contract. In a suit and tie behind a desk by day, and tees and
sneakers behind decks by night, Harley’s intelligent mixing and spot-on track
selection soon saw him play regularly to a packed QBar prior to leaving
Adelaide, and rushed him straight into a year-long residency at Melbourne’s
exclusive underground ‘Journey’ parties (held monthly at Evolution and
Billboard).
Following an 18 month stint playing weekly in Canberra (which culminated in a
main room set supporting Satoshi Tomiie) Harley returned to Melbourne in late
2003 to establish and focus on his own professional writing business, Writemix –
and of course, his DJ’ing.
Now,
in 2005, Harley is recognized as one of the nation’s premier dance music
journalists as Australian Editor of REMIX Magazine, and a regular freelancer for
the likes of i-DJ, Mixmag, DJ List, Capital DJ, and Pioneer Pro DJ worldwide.
And,
with main rooms gigs at Room680 under his belt (most recently alongside
Renaissance’s James Zabiela, and local legends including Mark James, Phil K,
Ivan Gough, and Luke Chable), Harley is a well-ensconced member of Melbourne’s
exciting new crew of future Progressive House spearheads.
